North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall joins TiE Carolina’s Event as Special Guest
TiE Carolinas is delighted to announce that Elaine Marshall, North Carolina Secretary of State, will be our Guest of Honor at our 2019 TyE Carolinas’ High School Business Competition. In 1996, Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall became the first woman elected to a statewide, executive branch office in North Carolina. Secretary Marshall has been very active in many civic groups in the areas of child welfare, women’s issues, and agriculture and small-town economic development. Since becoming Secretary of State, she has received numerous state and national awards for leadership in technology, government innovation, and women’s leadership. TiE Carolinas Chapter President Simmi Prasad reflects, “We are honored to host Elaine. She has done so much for the State of North Carolina and is a great example of leadership for our younger future entrepreneurs in TyE.”
TYE is a premier global program within TiE, a global non-profit organization focused on fostering entrepreneurship. TYE is a catalyst for helping students solve real-world problems with a mission to empower youth worldwide, as leaders, in a dynamic global environment. TYE teaches skills such as leadership, innovation, collaboration, and more to address economic and social challenges by focusing on the rewards and challenges of becoming an entrepreneur.
Our TYE Carolinas chapter is based out of RTP, and each year we admit about 30 students after thoroughly examining each application. Our four teams worked hard over a period of 3 months to quickly incubate an idea, gain sponsor user validation, define a business plan, and culminate with a 15-minute pitch to a panel of judges that include Todd Olson, Co-Founder and CEO of Pendo; Timothy Humphrey, Vice President of IBM Chief Data Office; Vandana Dake, Principal at Alliance Architecture; and Mark Phillips, Managing Director at Jacobs Capital. We are very excited to honor Elaine Marshall and to present what our teams have in store for us on April 4th.
